Reflexology
The Reflexology massage in its present form is a relatively new style of massage that was introduced and developed by Dr William Fitzgerald through a reflexology chart. But the massage is based on the ancient principle that believes there are reflexes in hand and feet that correspond to different parts and glands in the body. When pressure is applied on hands, feet and ears it activates the acupressure points that affect the corresponding organs of the body.
Dr. Fitzgerald divided the body in ten different vertical zones. When pressure is applied to any of these zones other areas of body respond to it. Thus, the massage is also known as zone therapy. The applied pressure improves circulation and removes the toxins. The body is understood to regain the ability to heal itself.
What is Reflexology Massage?
The Reflexology massage is based on the theory that the energy flowing through different energy lines is blocked due to the disorders in different body glands and parts. The human body has ten such energy lines or zones that follow a line from each toe and finger to the top of head following the whole body.
The energy thus blocked is released because of the pressure applied by the therapist on the designated spots in hands, feet and ears. The therapist may massage, squeeze or push the specific parts as may be the need of the patient.
How Reflexology Massage is applied and how it works
There is a reflexology foot map to help the therapist decide where to apply the pressure on hands and feet. There are certain tools based on the same map that may be applied to get the desired results.
The usual process begins with soaking the feet in warm water that may contain Epsom salt. After sometime they are taken out and are dried before starting the actual massage therapy
The therapist applies oil on the legs, etc. to help freedom and ease of movement of his/her fingers. The actual massage may involve pressing, squeezing or stroking of the particular predefined part of feet, hands or ears.
While the pressure is applied on the hands, feet and ears, the corresponding body parts are treated and healed. This is possible as the otherwise blocked life energy is released. It's is believed it affects not just particular body parts but the whole nervous system also.
